Helsinki, Finland (2014)

Transportable living units built from timber, for temporary housing in an urban context.

The theme for the project derives from the contemporary social challenges in Finland, focusing on the shortage of temporary housing for asylum seekers, as well as for students and families whose homes undergo renovation.

The design is a system of housing modules built primarily from timber, for urban application. The units can be stacked and create different configurations according to the need.

The Wood Program studio constructed three of these modules at full scale to form a tower that demonstrated the system of the project.

The initial concept has been developed by Käbi Noodapera Ramel and selected by the professors Pekka Heikkinen and Philip Tidwel.
